Waterlogged Wood Conservation Workshop – Copenhagen
Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Kocabaş and Research Associate Evren Türkmenoğlu attended the Conservation of Viking Ships Project conducted by The National Museum of Denmark-Department of Conservation, one of the leading laboratories in Northern Europe about conservation of marine objects in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Loading of Europe’s biggest freeze dryer and the begining of its conservation procedure is realized once every year. Istanbul University experts who wanted to build a similar system in our country at the Yenikapı Shipwrecks Project were involved in the application and got information about technical details of the conservation work of Viking ships at Roskilde. Kristiane Straektvern and Dr. Paul Jensen, experts from this laboratory, were invited to Istanbul in the recent years and attended the first step of the Istanbul University Yenikapı Shipwrecks Research and Laboratory’s week long workshop about conservation of waterlogged wood.
