Turkey – Norway Marine Archaeology Event
Turkey – Norway Marine Archaeology Event took place between the dates of 2-5 October 2013 in the capital of Norway, Oslo under auspices of our Honorable Ambassador Şanıvar Olgun.
The event started with speeches from Director Espan Waehle and Honorable Şanıvar Olgun and concert of the Alaturka Koro (Choir) directed by Conductor Aslı Özbilen at the Norwegian Maritime Museum in 3 October 2013. After Prof. Dr. Rasmus Brand’s inroduction of Istanbul University faculty member and Yenikapı Shipwrecks Project Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ufuk Kocabaş gave his lecture about “Latest Discoveries on Medieval Seafaring in the Mediterranean: Yenikapi Shipwrecks Project”.
It was conducted as a technical workshop on the second day of the event. Program of the 2nd Day:
Morning (9.30-12.00): Workshop at Norwegian Maritime Museum.
9.30-10.20: Ufuk Kocabaş-Methods of excavation/documentation/conservation on Yenikapı Shipwrecks. Discussion
10.20-11.00: Hilde Vangstad – A presentation of Norwegian Maritime Museums’ excavations in Oslo harbour, Bjørvika. Discussion
11.00-11.15: Coffee break
11.15-11.35: Tori Falck – Documenting/conserving and reconstructing the renaissance boats from Oslo harbour, Bjørvika
11.35-12.00: Kristian Løvset – A presentation of the wide range of underwater archaeology at the Norwegian Maritime Museum
12.15-13.00 Lunch at the Maritime Museum
13.00 A guided tour (Espen Wæhle, Tori Falck, Hilde Vangstad) of the exhibitions, documentation laboratory, conservation laboratory and boat building workshop of the Norwegian Maritime Museum
15.00 A guided tour of the Viking Ship Museum and the documentation laboratory (Jan Bill, Bjarte Aarseth).
