Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Yunus Söylet and University Committe visited Yenikapı Shipwrecks

Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Yunus Söylet, Vice Rector Prof. Ahmet M. Gökçen, Prof. Z. Çiğdem Kayacan, Prof. Nurkan Yağız, Assoc. Prof. Faik Çelik, Secretary General Dusuf Akça ve Director of Press and Human Relations Asst. Prof. Ergün Yolcu visited the ancient shipwrecks at Yenikapı and were briefed by Project Director Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Kocabaş.

Yenikapı Shipwrecks Project; which will contribute greatly to the development of marine, ship and boat archeology, is also the first shipwreck project excavated on land by Turkish scientists. Perfectly preserved ancient ships contain detailed information about the development of seamanship throughout the historical process.

Istanbul University who contributed immensely to the Project is taking more than 30 Byzantine ship remains under preservation at Istanbul University’s “Ship Conservation and Reconstruction Laboratory” which is Turkey’s first Ancient Ship conservation, restoration and reconstruction laboratory.

The trip ended with Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Kocabaş’s presentation at the IU Yenikapı Shipwrecks Research Laboratory.
