ISBSA 2009

International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology was carried out at Pera Museum

between the dates of 12-16 October 2009 with cooperation of Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Department of Conservation of Marine Archeological Objects and Vocational School of Technical Sciences Underwater Technology Section and the sponsorship of Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Istanbul Research Institute.

The theme of the triennial symposium was “Between Continents”. World’s leading scientists and experts attended the symposium where assertions about archaeological studies all over the world (completed or still ongoing) and research and findings about boat and ship building technologies were presented. Before the symposium, guests visited the Yenikapı Archaeological Excavation Site, after a presentation made by Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Kocabaş, they had the chance to examine a shipwreck in situ which was dated back to A.D. 6th century. Afterwards, the guests were informed about the ongoing documentation work on the shipwrecks at the Istanbul University Restoration and Conservation Laboratory.

After the symposium, there was a two day trip to Amasra for the guests.
